The National Park Service has announced it will begin closing operations today at noon in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, which forecasters predict could pass over or near the Outer Banks and its three national parks.
 Four park-operated campgrounds on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the park's docks at Silver Lake Marina on Ocracoke Island will close today at noon, according to a news release.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A 5.9 magnitude earthquake centered northwest of Richmond, Va., shook much of Washington, D.C., and was felt as far north as Rhode Island, New York City and Martha's Vineyard, Mass., where President Barack Obama is vacationing.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was half a mile deep. Shaking was felt at the White House and all over the East Coast, as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C. "We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days," Disney ABC/Television Group Daytime President Brian Frons said in a statement.

Yes, the Susan Lucci-starring “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” both received cancellation notices today, the alphabet network said.
“We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days,” Disney ABC/Television Group Daytime President Brian Frons said in statement.
“They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways. A perfect example of this is ‘The View,’ and that factored into our decision.”
“All My Children” will close up shop in September and “One Life to Live” will air its final episode in January, ABC said.
What’s slated to replace the two soap operas are “The Chew” and “The Revolution.”
